Unlocking Their Potential

Feb. 1, 2017

Children at Tamassee DAR School are blessed to be a part of a loving and giving community that understands the value of exposing children to many different types of cultural and artistic events.

Opportunities such as these help children explore their own interests and may lead to the discovery of talents deep within themselves just waiting for the chance to blossom. It may be a specific musical instrument that speaks to them which ultimately leads to lessons.   It could be an awakening to the love of theatre which prompts them to test the waters by participating in school or church productions. It might be expressing themselves through backstage artistry such as costume designs or prop creation.    Tamassee DAR School students are experiencing a season of wonderful opportunities to expand their horizons and explore their interests by partaking in several different artistic events.

The Barter Players, a traveling troupe of actors from the Barter Theatre in Virginia arrived on campus last weekend to perform “The Ugly Duckling”. Following the play, there were workshops held by the actors where children participated in games and exercises that helped them explore their acting talents.

The students will also be on hand for the upcoming performance of “Seussical which is coming to the area.   This production is adapted from the Broadway version and will provide the children with the opportunity to enjoy musical tributes to some of our favorite childhood stories by Dr. Seuss.

The live theatre will become real when we travel to the Clemson Little Theatre for the performance of Thumbelina.   What a wonderful time for them to experience firsthand, all the magic associated with an on-stage show with live performers unfolding directly in front of them!

For many of our children, these performances will be their first time attending a live production.   As the magic becomes real, we hope it will leave with them wonderful memories and perhaps create a love in their heart and a yearning to learn more.
