Teaching Parents. Supporting Children. Serving Families.
At Tamassee DAR School, it’s all about the kids! For nearly a century, Tamassee DAR School has served thousands of children in need. Supporting children and families in crisis through residential, educational and outreach services is our mission. To achieve this goal, we rely on “Teaching Parents” – our term for a Residential Child Care Worker. Our Teaching Parents partner with an established learning community of teachers, health professionals, administrators and students’ parents/guardians to ensure our children reach their full potential.
At Tamassee DAR School, the Teaching Parent provides active care and supervision for a group of 8-10 students, boys or girls of a similar age, in a beautiful living-learning cottage environment. Although at times challenging, being a Teaching Parent is extremely rewarding and requires staff with a range of positive attributes and qualities, including high levels of self-awareness, warmth, resilience and emotional intelligence.
In addition to mentoring student’s social, emotional, moral, and spiritual development, the Teaching Parent oversees the children’s daily lives, from the beginning to the end of the day. Including school preparation, homework, chores and healthy meals, a Teaching Parent is there ready to help. Weekends include recreational opportunities and outings, Sunday church service attendance with the primary goal of establishing and providing a positive atmosphere and nurturing nucleus for the children to thrive.
At Tamassee DAR School, we seek to employ people who are positive and passionate about what they do and are committed to the needs of our children and their families. We invite you to explore the ministry of a Teaching Parent.
