Starlight is a sober living, faith-oriented, long-term residential program for moms and their children addressing trauma, substance use, parenting/family needs, and life skills to promote healthy family life and independence.
Starlight is not a licensed substance use treatment facility. The program is designed to extend for up to two years for the core program, with extended time in the transitional living phase. Moms can be any age and their children need to be under the age of eight, or fourth grade and below at the time of admission.
Starlight will be using curriculum such as Genesis Process, Love and Logic, Emotionally Healthy Relationships, Circle of Security for the core program, and others.
We are also partnering with external providers and volunteers to help with life skills such as budgeting, cooking, finding/keeping a job, housing, etc. Recovery support meetings such as FAVOR will be important gatherings, and enrichment activities for the family members will expose them to their self-interests. Our partnerships will be with local medical providers to engage primary care and various local churches and multiple individual volunteers.
The program is voluntary, and cost is based on Mom’s ability to pay, however in keeping with Tamassee’s history, no mom will be denied access based on her ability to pay.
Once Moms arrive Tamassee’s Case Manager will assist with applying for and accessing all benefits for which they qualify – services such as Medicaid, SNAP, to help to offset the expense of the program.
We are seeking accreditation under housing/stabilizing and community living through COA (Council on Accreditation). The children will attend school on campus at Starlight Academy which will also be accredited through COA, or in the Early Learning Center if they are not yet school age.
We are now taking applications and conducting interviews with the plan to launch in the next few weeks. We welcome your referrals! The application and instructions for how to return it is on our website at www.starlight.tdarschool.org, along with a list of frequently asked questions.
Please feel free to provide this information to anyone you feel may benefit from this program, or to your networking contacts who may know of families in crisis. We screen applicants and applications to determine if they meet our eligibility criteria and we offer resources should we be unable to provide services.
