Preparing for the New School Year

Jun. 12, 2020

The 2020-2021 school year will be here in two months!   By the time the first day of school rolls around, it will have been close to six months since students have been in the classroom environment.  Some of those students might find they have fallen behind in their studies due to technology impacts, difficulty concentrating in an in-home environment, or the lack of discipline it took to stay focused.   Tamassee DAR School is expanding its Early Childhood Learning program and developing a robust after school program that will help your elementary or middle school student get back on the road to success.

Starting on the first day of school this August, our buses will be running Monday through Friday to pick up students at Tamassee-Salem, James M. Brown, Walhalla Elementary Schools, as well as NEXT Eagle Ridge and Walhalla Middle Schools.  Students will return to our campus where they will enjoy a healthy snack before focusing on the excitement of our academic, enrichment, and citizenship programs.  Life is full of challenges and our team is also familiar with trauma-informed principles to care for students and enhance their coping and resiliency skills if needed.

Tamassee DAR School is pleased to announce that the Early Childhood Learning program in the Pennsylvania Children’s Center (PCC) has been licensed for the upcoming school year as a South Carolina First Steps 4K provider.  The lesson plan offered on our campus to prepare 4 year olds for their kindergarten experience is the same certified criteria that is taught in the local elementary schools, but with lower student to teacher ratios.   If you have a child preparing to begin their 4K educational experience in fall, we would love to talk with you about beginning their love of lifelong learning as a part of our program.   To qualify for FREE enrollment, a child must turn 4 years old prior to September 1, 2020, and be eligible for Medicaid, SNAP, or TANF, experiencing homelessness or transiency, or in foster care.   Janice Young can be reached by calling PCC at 864.944.2270.

As Tamassee enters its second century of service we are excited about welcoming children from our local communities to once again be a part of our Tamassee family.  Tamassee was founded to ensure that children receive a quality educational foundation on which they could build a good future.    We look forward to growing long lasting relationships with children and families in the community as we continue to develop and roll out additional learning opportunities, training sessions, specialty summer camps, and much more for people of all ages.  Tamassee DAR School encourages you to never stop learning!

To better accommodate our clientele, the Tamassee DAR School Thrift Store has reopened for business with new hours.  The store is now open for business Tuesday-Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.  Donations are welcomed on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
