Our Very Special Guest is Touching Lives

Apr. 5, 2019

Perhaps you have seen, or heard that International Christian Recording Artist and Film-Score Composer, Calvin Jones will be performing Solo Piano LIVE at Southern Wesleyan University in Concert on April 5th  at 7 pm at the Newton Hobson Chapel and Fine Arts Center.   This benefit concert for Tamassee DAR School is being offered in partnership with Southern Wesleyan University and is a part of Tamassee’s Centennial Celebration.  You now know that Mr. Jones is coming, but you may not be aware that he is staying on campus with us and we are very much enjoying his presence.

Calvin arrived in the early morning hours on Tuesday from his part time home in the Ukraine.  Mr. Jones is a Minnesota native who travels Europe playing with orchestra’s throughout the different countries as their featured musician.    It was dark when he arrived and got settled into the guest cottage which will be his home away from home for the next few days.   When the sun came up over the Place of the Sunlight of God, he was amazed at the beauty of the campus that surrounded him.     After a brief tour of the campus Calvin enjoyed spending a little time out of busy rehearsal schedule to play and encourage one of our students, who is currently taking piano lessons, to practice hard and often.   The lesson concluded with the music of everyone’s familiar piece, “Chopsticks” and the promise by our student to follow his advice.     Unfamiliar to the student is that one of Mr. Jones special compositions is his own rendition of this familiar piano piece, called “Whitewater Chopsticks”.  I can only imagine the surprise on the face of the Tamassee DAR School student when Calvin takes the stage and begins this number with the oh-so familiar beginning melody.

At Tamassee we strive to provide children with the opportunity to explore new worlds and seek out interests that they were not aware they had.   Events such as this concert, which is a family friendly evening with a world class performer right here in the upstate, is certainly one of those opportunities and we are thrilled to make it available to the children of Tamassee and to everyone in our nearby communities.

We hope you will take advantage of the opportunity to spend an intimate evening with Calvin Jones.    The staff and children of Tamassee DAR School are very much looking forward to it!

There are still some reserve seats available at www.swu.edu/boxoffice/ for this special evening tonight, Friday night at 7 p.m.   Don’t miss this rare opportunity as Calvin joins us all the way from Ukraine as part of his Paramount Tour. Invite your friends and family to share in this unforgettable evening of classic/contemporary and eternal music. As Mr. Jones states in his material, “Allow yourself to escape into the presence of God and get lost in the Awe of our Creator.”
