Meeting Educational Needs

Jun. 24, 2022

At the beginning of each school year, Tamassee Afterschool students are “STAR tested” to determine a benchmark for each child.   Halfway through the year, the students are re-evaluated to monitor the effectiveness of our homework center.  Prior to the end of the school year, the children are, once again, tested to determine their overall academic growth.  We are excited to share these results with you.

During the 2021-2022 school year, a total of 42 students attended the Afterschool program.  Eighty-two percent of the students improved in reading, and 84 percent made strides in math.  Throughout this school year, 78 percent of students completed three or more citizenship projects and 100 percent participated in STEM activities.  Students who were enrolled in the afterschool program for two years, from 2020 – this year, improved in reading and math 90 percent.

Thank you to our teachers, staff, and community tutors who dedicated their time and talents to helping our elementary and middle school students excel in their classes last school year.

It is not too early to begin thinking about enrolling your child in our Afterschool program for the upcoming 2022-2023 school year.  We transport children from Walhalla and Keowee elementary schools, and Walhalla Middle School to Tamassee’s campus.  In our program, children focus on developing good citizenship values, building strong resiliency skills, growing academically, and can investigate self-interests through several types of enrichment activities.

With summer here, we expect to welcome more than 60 campers to spend their summer days with us.  Oh, the fun they will have participating in happy childhood adventures with old their friends, as well as making new ones along the way.

2022 Summer Day Camp opened on June 13th and will run through August 5th.  Our historical campus is the site of childhood adventures, events, challenges and learning opportunities that provide carefree summer memories for community children to carry with them for years to come.

Each day within the week hosts a specific theme, with activities designed to re-enforce the values and traits associated with the characteristics of each topic.   Daily activity themes range from STEM and computer adventures to having fun with theatrics.

The campus is alive with the sound of children learning, creating happy summer memories, enjoying the beautiful surroundings and all Tamassee DAR School has to offer!    Wishing you all a summer filled with the excitement and amazement of a child.
