Maintaining Focus for Success

Dec. 11, 2020

Tamassee DAR School’s transition to a center for education began with the 2020-2021 school year as we expanded our Early Childhood Learning program and established our Afterschool program for elementary and middle school students in the community.    Along with the pandemic which has altered everyone’s life, at Tamassee it has been an eventful year filled with anticipated changes as well as unplanned impacts.  However, through it all we have maintained our focus on helping students achieve educational success while developing an understanding of good citizenship principles and the value in practicing them.

With Covid-19 forcing many parents and/or caregivers to work from home, or worse yet culminating in job displacement, we knew recruiting and enrolling students in the Afterschool Program would be a challenge.  Since the program opened in August our enrollment has grown to 17 enthusiastic elementary and middle school students.  Some of the enrollees are homeschool students who attend for the value of the social connections, while others were enrolled by caregivers who recognized the limits of their own educational instruction and rely on us to strengthen their child’s academic advancements.   Our goal is to promote a relationship with those we serve by including everyone in seasonal festivities and providing resources to encourage and strengthen families.

It is rewarding to hear students bargain with parents who arrive early to take them home, in hopes they can stay until the end of the day to participate in the planned activities.  Our staff is made up of quality teachers and our volunteers are dedicating to helping your child achieve academic success.   Our full day classes offer instruction and plenty of fun activities to not only those who are enrolled in the everyday Afterschool Program, but to any elementary or middle school student in the community.  Our Winterbreak Session will be available to help you through the holiday vacation on Dec. 23 and then again from Dec 28-31st.   The cost for the five days is $100 which includes breakfast, lunch, and mid-day snacks and the hours are 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Your student will enjoy days filled with friends, adventures, and learning.

On December 18th we are offering an evening out to parents from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.   Finish Christmas shopping, enjoy a dinner out, or just relax at home while your child is entertained here in our program.  The cost is $15 which includes a meal. Enrollment is now open by calling Erin at 864.944.1390 ext. 112.

The safety of your child is our greatest concern.  That’s why we follow all guidelines from ABC Quality and the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control for the COVID-19 pademic.

Just like the students and families we serve, for Tamassee it has been a year filled with challenges and overcoming unforeseen changes.  Our assurance to you is that Tamassee’s dedication to families and children in the community is still strong, our doors are still open, and will continue to serve you.
