Learning Good Citizenship Values

Mar. 5, 2021

The Tamassee Navigator Citizenship Program exists to mold children into great American heros.

The four values of the Navigator program are passion, courage, service, and dignity.  Navigator classroom sessions are held two times weekly during which time the teachers and students discuss how each of these components encourage and build character traits associated with good citizenship.  Students are encouraged to utilize this knowledge to perform acts of good citizenship for which they receive individual and group points.

During monthly Town Halls, the Navigator students, instructors, staff and family members watch as awards and recognitions are presented based on the good citizenship projects and actions the students have displayed.  The February Town Hall included a very special guest speaker, Mr. Bobby Norizan Principal of Tamassee Salem Elementary School (TSES).  It was a special gathering for the Afterschool students who are enrolled at TSES.  You could tell by their active participation that they were in awe of the moment and excited to share some personal thoughts with Mr. Norizan.  We are very appreciative for the positive words of wisdom he imparted on the children and the parents in attendance.

Next on the agenda were presentations by several students who were working simultaneously on two project pins – passion and courage.  Each of the students created a power point program highlighting an interest they are passionate about and then assembled the courage to stand in front of the attendees and deliver their facts.  We are very proud of these students and their achievements.  The Town Hall closed with the distribution of new pins and badges to deserving Navigators. Cheers followed as the announcement of the team leading in Navigator points, who will be rewarded with a trip to Six Flags at the end of the school year, was made.  At Tamassee DAR School we value and award good citizenship!  Thank you to everyone for your support and contributions to this program.
