It’s spring break camp time!

Apr. 15, 2022

It’s spring break and so far, every day Tamassee’s campus has been alive with twenty-four children who built friendships, had fun and explored new interests every day.  The standard schedule for each day included breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, plus several individual game time sessions, outdoor recesses and a unique group event.

The first day of camp, the students dabbled in the world of business, with a particular emphasis on marketing tactics.  This event was called the Pitch Challenge.   Each student came up with a business idea or product, designed it, then marketed their creations to the rest of the group.  Afterward, each student voted on the best pitch that had been developed.  This exercise provided the students the opportunity to explore their creative talents, stretch their imaginations and practice presentation skills which builds self-confidence.

On Tuesday, the students donned aprons and explored their cooking talents.  Each student cooked a meal of grilled cheese, tomato soup and salad. They also had the opportunity to create their own salad dressing and fully prepared each part of the meal.

Wednesday was action packed with recreational activities.  The children could be heard cheering each other on as they participated in all manors of recreational type games, from tag to basketball, and including an obstacle course.

If you have attended one of our past BBQ Cook-offs, one of the favorite family events is the good ol’ fashioned scavenger hunt.  We have found it to be a crowd pleaser, as it allows guests to wander campus and enjoy the beauty of their surroundings while marveling at the many, historical markers that can be found throughout.  Thursday’s spring break campers had the opportunity to experience the excitement of the hunt.

Today is Friday and the last day of spring break camp.  The excitement of today will be mock TV game show competitions.  Students will participate in our home-grown versions of “Family Feud” and “Jeopardy”, as well as several “Minuit to win it” type games.   This is a camper favorite and one that fills the educational building with all the audience thrills of the real-life tv shows.   It’s easy to get caught up in the moment.

Spring break camp is a preview of our summer camp experience for children in the community.  If you are interested in providing your student with the opportunity to build friendships, have fun and explore new interests during the summer months, call us at 864.944.1390 ext. 114.  Registrations are being taken now.

Join us on Tuesday, May 3rd for the Tamassee benefit golf tournament.  This year the tournament will be held at Smithfields Golf Course in Easley.  Thank you to the Walhalla, Nathanael Greene, and Fort Prince George SC DAR Chapters for their love and support in hosting this tournament for the tenth year.  Registration forms can be found on our website at www.tdarschool.org.  We hope you will come play “fore” the children and families we serve.

Happy Easter from Tamassee staff and students to you and your loved ones.
