With the warmer, balmy air blowing through campus the past couple of days, the children are taking their time wandering from their cottages to the Learning Resource Center, the banquet hall, playground, and occasionally making a stop in our offices. It is so refreshing to hear their voices, see their smiles, and talk about the many things that have happened since the colder air came through and everyone scrambled inside to the warmth of the buildings.
This weekend will be grand time to spend time with the children when the Fielding Lewis Chapter of the DAR comes from Georgia to host their annual Valentine’s Party. A day filled with games, crafts, sweet treats, and prizes! There will be a karaoke machine for those students who love to sing and dance like a rock star and hear the roaring cheers from their adoring fans. There will be games like pin-the-tail on the donkey and bean bag toss for those who are more athletic and competitive. The artsy ones will rotate through craft stations where they will create gifts for their cottage mates and good friends, or just something special for themselves. And talk about sweet treats! All of the students will find their way to the treats table for vanilla cupcakes smothered in pink or red icing and topped with jellied hearts, homemade sugar cookies covered with red sprinkles, red and white chocolate kisses with cupid cutouts adorning the tops. And who could forget those pretzel sticks dipped in marshmallow crème with candy chips drizzled on each one?
All of this fun and excitement will be topped off by the opportunities we will have to meet new people, begin cultivating friendships, and building healthy relationships with our hosts and hostesses. It will be a fun day filled with laughter, joy, and love which is what Valentine’s Day is all about! We hope your Valentine’s Day finds YOU surrounded with love and appreciation!
