Getting Ready for 2021

Jan. 8, 2021

Good-bye 2020 and hello 2021.   It is with great excitement and anticipation that Tamassee DAR School is making plans for programs and services that will be provided to our surrounding communities throughout the new year.

During the past 12 months our interaction with the children and families in the community have found Tamassee returning to the basic purpose for our founding – to provide educational opportunities to the children of the southern mountains.  Over the past year it has been a joy to reconnect with our families, the businesses, and organizations within the local communities by participating in their festivities and having them be a part of ours.  So much so, that our 2021 event schedule will include activities to welcome families to our campus and incorporate opportunities for local businesses and organizations to take part.     We are anticipating the utilization of our campus for everything from family oriented movie nights, to a community rummage festival, and much more.   With our first on-campus wedding reviews rated a success, we will continue marketing our cottages, buildings, chapel, and grounds as a wedding venue for local couples and for those looking for a destination wedding location.  Our hope is that local businesses will also benefit from the increased traffic activity.

Under the leadership of Tyler Gibson our new Assistant Afterschool Director, Tamassee’s Summer Program will offer plenty of exciting adventures to challenge children with subtle educational lessons that will be built around the same four core principles of the Afterschool Program:   academics, citizenship, enrichment, and resiliency.   Each week throughout the summer months our Summer Camp will highlight a specific theme.  These themes will guide activities to broaden the scope of the student’s understanding and educationally advance their knowledge of the world around them.   For instance, there could be a week of an enrichment dance camp to focus on different countries and cultures.  At week’s end, the children will have an increased awareness of dance traditions around the world and a deeper appreciation for the diversity of those around us.   There will be a week of art classes to help children explore their inner-selves, test their creative talents, and awaken the artist that sleeps inside of each of them.   At the end of each week, families will be invited to a special event that spotlights the lessons the children have learned and the experiences they enjoyed.

Our successful Tamassee Navigator Citizenship Program will also be incorporated into the summer fun and our knowledgeable staff will continue to enhance a child’s coping and resiliency skills so they can overcome negative impacts and move forward.

Call today to reserve a place in our Summer Camp experience.  Provide your child with a summer of adventure filled days with good friends that they will carry with them forever. Full day camp will begin at the end of the 2020 school year and will run throughout the summer.  Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous New Year!
