BBQ and Community Fun at Tamassee

Jun. 10, 2022

Preparations are being made at Tamassee DAR School for the 3rd annual BBQ Cookoff.  This annual event will kick off Saturday morning, June 11th at 11:00 a.m. with plenty of free family fun and excitement until 2 p.m.  This year, we are welcoming four BBQ teams into the field of competition. They will no doubt be hoping to dethrone Delanio Taylor from Big D’s House of BBQ, who has gone home with the first place Grill Master trophy the last two years.   This year, we are grateful to be blessed with the following BBQ teams:  Big Cliff’s BBQ, King of Clemson BBQ, Iron Pig BBQ, and Big D’s House of BBQ.

Our celebrity judges for the competition include Miss South Carolina USA Meera Bhonsle’, Superintendent Oconee County School District Dr. Michael Thorsland, Mayor of West Union Linda Oliver, and Tamassee CEO Rev. Jon Holland.  They will have their work cut out for them as they sample the delicious chicken, brisket, ribs, and pork to name the 2022 Tamassee Grill Master Champion.  Good luck to all the competitors.

Free car cruise-in, horseback rides, face painting, community art project and music by Magic will add to the excitement.  Emergency vehicles will be on display, and multiple door prize drawings will be held.  This is a great opportunity to learn more about Tamassee’s programs and services, as staff from Starlight, summer day camp, early learning center, and afterschool will be available to answer your questions.

BBQ lunch plates will be sold for $10/each, with all proceeds benefitting Tamassee’s programs and services.

This day is made possible through the love and support of our Silver Sponsors: the town of West Union, JTEKT, Horton Inc., LLC, Nan Jones, our Bronze Sponsors: DR. Peace and Love, Thrift Brothers, our Friends of Tamassee: TD Bank, CG Roxanne, and Carolyn Maddox.   Thank you for making this BBQ fundraising event possibly for the members of our community and in support of the programs and services provided by Tamassee DAR School.

If you have not visited Tamassee beautiful campus, this would be the day to come!  We hope to see you there!

Summer day camp is preparing to get underway on Monday, June 13th.  The camp will run weekly through August 5th from 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.   Campers will enjoy themed activities days throughout the week including cooking, sports and recreation, STEM, drama, arts and crafts and more.  Classes are filling up so please contact us at 864.944.1390 or visit us at www.tdarschool.org for more information.
