South Carolina State Society, NSDAR hosted the 2017 Tamassee DAR School Dessert Extravaganza during the 126th Continental Congress in Washington D.C. It was a sweet celebration of the school’s 98 year history. In addition to the tasty desserts, a special announcement was made during the event.
South Carolina State Regent, Dianne Culbertson endorsed a gift challenge that was made by South Carolina Daughter Linda Hawkins in memory of her husband, Tommy Hawkins and her parents, Glenn and Faye Stokes . Linda is a member of Sumter’s Home Chapter and a retired high school English and theatre teacher.
In addition, a significant matching contribution of $10,000 toward the initial challenge has been received from Carolyn Maddox, Walhalla Chapter SCDAR.
Jason Eller, CDO of Tamassee DAR School expressed his gratitude and said, “We are so thankful to Linda for her wonderful lead gift to start this year’s matching gift challenge. Linda is an extraordinary giving person and continues to be a loving friend to the children in providing for their daily needs and in volunteering to produce, teach and coordinate plays with them.
Thanks to Linda’s leadership gift a matching gift has been made by Carolyn Maddox, Walhalla Chapter, SCDAR. We are so thankful for Carolyn for her years of service to the children and Tamassee DAR School and know that her matching gift will encourage others to step forward and contribute to this year’s D.C. challenge.”
The original challenge gift of $10,000 and all donations contributed toward that challenge will be used for the Boarding Scholarship Fund at Tamassee DAR School. This fund supports the daily needs of children in care, including, food, utilities, clothing, staff, educational needs, medical/dental needs and much more.
